摘 要:古代小说的续书一直受到评论界的轻视与贬低,认为是"狗尾续貂",因此也很少有人研究续书的"理论"。但是到了清朝末年,随着小说创作的不断变革和中西文化的交融,一些学者或多或少地对小说续书提出新的批评,如吴研人、邱炜裷、黄人、王国维等。尤其是王国维则是在文学的艺术规律或是在美学意义上对小说续书进行更深层次上的批评。晚清学者对小说续书的批评,固然有当时社会背景下文学批评界的偏激,但同时强调文学应有创新观念。Continuances in fiction have long been degraded and neglected by the c ritic circles as unworthy sequels to a masterpiece. For this reason no serious e fforts had been made until the late Qing Dynasty when fiction writing underwent constant changes and contact with western cultures. Scholars such as Wu Jianren, Qiu Weiyuan, Huang Ren, and Wang Guowei began to make a critical review of thos e works. Wang Guowei in particular penetrated deeper into the problem from an an gle of artistic principles and aesthetic meanings. Apart from the radical critic ism due to the social background, there is a positive stress the critics on creative writing.
