摘　　要：The.art of embroidery needlework reached a high level of sophistication along the Old Silk Road,and among the spots where it flourished was in Xinjiang.This traditional handicraft,along with other types of needlework and textiles,remains popular among Uyghur people in Xinjiang's Hami City. The tradition is a very long one here.An early piece of embroidery found in a Hami burial cemetery dates from the late Bronze Age.In the Han dynasty, Hami was a military post on the Silk Road,a place for stationing troops and for growing crops.With a growing east-west trade,Hami developed into a town and cultural crossroad.
