An examination of ancient medical documents from all over the globe suggests that many texts are similar to the Dunhuang document Single-Ingredient Verified Remedies to Prepare for Emergencies, and that some even contain prescriptions that are completely the same. These prescriptions in particular had been highly praised by Chinese and foreign doctors since the Jin dynasty and the copying and compiling of these recipes became a common practice in many places. Out of recognition of the efficacy of these medicines and the kindness of doctors truly interested in benefiting the health of others, these prescriptions were passed down through ages of medical tradition, the records of which now provide physical evidence for studying and supplementing the Dunhuang copy of Single-Ingredient Verified Remedies to Prepare for Emergencies. Based on the version composed by Wang Shumin, this paper attempts to study and supplement this Dunhuang medical document, hoping to provide references useful for further academic research of medical textual history.
