ET。Objective To study the change of the plasma and urinary endothelin (ET) and nitric oxide (NO) in the children with primary nephritic syndrome (PNS) and their relationship. Methods The plasma and urinary ET and NO levels in the children with PNS were measured respectively by using radioimmunoassay and colorimetry in acute period and remission period and compared with each other.A linear correlation between ET and serum albumin or urinary protein, and NO and serum albumin or urinary protein was analyzed. Results The levels of plasma and urinary ET in the children with PNS were all significantly higher in acute period than in the normal group ( t = 11.905 , 9.201 , respectively, all of P< 0.01 ) and all decreased in remission period and were not different from normal group (all of P> 0.05 ).The levels of plasma and urinary NO in the children with PNS in acute period and in remission period showed the same change as those of the plasma and urinary ET.NO correlation between plasma ET and plasma NO, urinary ET, urinary NO, plasma albumin or urinary protein was found (all of P> 0.05 ).The plasma NO was positively related to urinary NO ( r= 0.499 , P < 0.05 ) and not to urinary ET, plasma albumin and urinary protein (all of P > 0.05 ).Conclusion Both ET and NO may take part in the pathogenesis of PNS.
