摘　　要：这是赛珍珠于 １９３３年 ３月 １３日在美国哥伦比亚大学发表的演讲。在演讲中，赛珍珠指出，跨文化阐释决非易事，尤其是要向西方阐释像中国这样一个幅员辽阔、民族多样、风俗各异的国家，因为它受到阐释者和阐释接受者的阅历和心态等方面的限制，因此，赛珍珠认为，一个成功的跨文化阐释者必须具有谦卑的、调查研究的精神，同时，一个阐释者也应该清醒地知道，他更多地是通过自己的行动而非言论来描述和阐释他的祖国和文明的。赛珍珠的这些睿见发表在过去，其价值却更多的体现在当下，值得生活在多元文化时代的人们深思。Translator's Note: This is a speech Pearl Buck delivered at Columbia University in March 13,1933. In the speech, Pearl Buck points out that intercultural interpretation is no easy job, especially that of China, for both the interpreter and the person who receives the interpretation are limited by their experience and mentality, among other factors. Pearl Buck therefore advocates a spirit of humility and of inquiry. These wise viewpoints were put forward in the 1930s, but they are still significant and thought-provoking in the 21st century.
