Objective To study the value of 99 Tc m MDP bone imaging in evaluating the bone allograft transplantation. Methods The 15mm segmental bone/periosteum defects were created on bilateral radius in 18 New Zealand rabbits and were treated with two different kinds of implants: A, freeze dried bone allograft combined with basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF);B, freeze dried bone only. The repairs of defects were observed radiologically and histologically and was analyzed by radionuclide bone imaging.Other 3 rabbits were chosen as normal control. Results ①All the bone allografts without complications were survived.Their radioactivities increased at the 2nd week, reached the summit at the 4th week, and then decreased gradually. The changes of radioactivity were consistent with that of histology, and were earlier than those of X ray examination. ② The radioactivities of group A were higher than those of group B. ③ Other 2 cases were infected after operation, the radioactivity dropped at the 2nd week. They recovered normally after treatment at the 4th week. Conclusion Radionuclide bone imaging can assess the survival of bone allograft and evaluate the osteogenic activity of implantation.
