The "speeches" by married or unmarried women who sacrificed their lives for their dead husbands or fiances,as recorded in Guangdong local records during the Ming and Qing Dynasty, are not exactly the same in different versions of these local records.Although their "speeches" were very brief, yet at the core they all pointed to unswerving faithfulness to marriage, highlighting women's approbation of the chastity outlooks of feudal dynasties. But these "speeches" also insinuate the popular trend of remarriage of widows in Guangdong society. It was exactly because of this, the compilers of local records often fabricated " speeches" by chastity and virtuous women to communicate to the general public the sort of chastity outlook that they deemed to be appropriate for women.
