摘　　要：本文通过调查研究发现,我国一流大学院长是:以50岁左右的男性占绝对多数、具有良好学术背景且在本学科专业领域内卓有建树的学者构成的群体;多数人在担任院长职务前具有类似工作经验;我国一流大学倾向于选择具有海外学术经历者担任院长职务。当前院长的职责主要是科研、教学或人才培养、管理以及社会公共事务。The academic Deans of the first-class universities in China are those who have had a good academ- ic background and have made＂ great achievement in the discipline, and most of them are males of about fifty years old. Most of them had been engaged in academic management before serving as academic deans. Moreover, men who have academic experience overseas tended to be chosed and appointed to the deanship of first-class universities in China. The main duties of the deans include research, teach- ing, management and social services.
