摘　　要：图书馆是人的精神升华和人类文明进步的历史产物,是一种具有特定社会功能和历史使命,推动人的精神不断实现自我超越,促进人类文明依其内在规律健康发展的社会公器。21世纪的人类社会处于一个全球化、信息化进程不断深化,人类文明的历史进程由工业文明不断走向信息文明,由传统的物质型文明走向一个全新的精神型文明的历史转型阶段。面对当今世界在这一特定历史时期各种尖锐复杂的社会问题以及这些社会问题背后所潜藏的重大社会危机,以图书馆现象与图书馆生存的现实基础——社会信息资源为基本研究对象的图书馆学,有必要对图书馆、人的精神、人类文明三者之间的内在联系,以及当代图书馆学在21世纪这一特定历史背景和社会条件下的学术职责、历史使命与理论研究和学科建设的发展方向作纵深层次的研究与辨析。Library is historical product accompany with human spirit distillation and human civilization progress.It is a public instrument with specific society function and historical mission of driving human spirit constantly realizing self-transcend-ence, promoting human civilization healthy development according to its inherent laws.Human society of the 21 century is during a historic transitional period from industrial civilization to information civilization, from conventional material type civilization to a brand new type of spiritual civilization, accompany with the course of history of globalization and information process deepening constantly.Facing all kinds of sharp and complicated problems and the great social crisis behind them in the world today, library science, that takes library phenomenon and the practical foundation of library, social information resources, as its basic research subjects, must launch depth study and analysis on the inherent relationship among library, human spirit and human civilization, as well as the academic responsibility, historical mission and theoretical research and disciplinary construction direction for contempora-ry library science in this specific historical context and social conditions.
