摘　　要：地理空间元数据是地理数据的描述性信息,它对地理数据的标识、空间范围、数据质量、参照系等特征进行描述与说明。地理空间元数据的理论问题,是研究制定地理空间元数据标准的重要依据,是对地理空间元数据进行深入研究和应用的基础。阐述地理空间元数据理论的研究现状,分析目前地理空间元数据理论体系研究存在的问题,提出对地理现象抽象过程的四层次空间划分,在四层次空间划分理论基础上建立一个地理空间元数据理论体系的研究框架。Metadata is an important technique to support digital earth, and decides whether digital earth will be a successful system. Geo-spatial metadata is description information about geographic data and information resource, which describes the content, quality, status and other geographic characters. The theory of geo-spatial metadata is the foundation to study and apply geo-spatial metadata standard. After expounding the status and problems of geo-spatial metadata theory, it proposes four partition spaces of abstract process on geographic phenomenon, and establishes a research framework of geo-spatial metadata theory hierarchy based on it.
