摘　　要：著名华裔美国作家雷祖威的处女作《爱的痛苦》出版于1991年,由11篇互为独立的短篇小说构成,一经推出就获得了国内外评论界的一致赞誉。标题篇"爱的痛苦"描绘的是一个典型移民家庭的真实生活场景与人际关系。试从居所、人物以及物件三个方面入手,系统而具体地分析象征主义手法在这一短篇小说中的娴熟运用,旨在挖掘其隐含深意,鉴赏其艺术效果。The renowned Chinese American writer David Wong Louie＇s debut,Pangs of Love,came out in 1991 as a set of 11 independent short stories,winning high evaluations from critics home and abroad. Its title story＂Pangs of Love＂,which is the focus of this paper,depicts the true life and interpersonal relationships in a typical immigrant family. This paper intends to offer a detailed and systematic analysis of symbolism from three levels of dwellings,characters and synthetic products as a literary technique used in the short story in order to grasp hidden meanings and appreciate its artistic significance.
