摘　　要：19世纪中叶,西方资本主义迅猛发展,物质水平得到空前提高,作家更加关注现实生活,文学作品也如雨后春笋纷纷冒出,呈现出一片繁荣景象。其中,英国女作家夏洛蒂·勃朗特的《简·爱》和法国作家梅里美《嘉尔曼》中的女主人翁简爱与嘉尔曼,都以追求人格尊严与精神自由且极具反抗与叛逆精神的形象给当时乃至现在的读者留下了深刻印象,魅力经久不衰。文章着重比较二者性格中平等自由和反抗叛逆精神的异同,并探索这种异同产生的深层原因。The middle of nineteenth century has witnessed rapid development of the western capitalism. With people＇s living level improved remarkably, writers paid more attention to everyday life, so did the literature works, which emerged tremendously and took on prosperity. The typical ones are French writer Merimee＇s Carmon and English female writer Charlotte Bronte＇s Jane Eyre. These two writers are so famous for their pursuit of personal dignity and spiritual freedom that readers, then and now, are deeply impressed by the rebellious and resistant women images. Attracted by their charm, numbers of scholars from both home and abroad have been devoting to doing research on them. The paper compares the differences and similarities between the two writer＇s pursuit to freedom and rebellion and explores the deep reasons for them.
