Objective To study the influence of the flight training on flying cadets' vestibular function and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACH) levels of plasma. Methods Five hundred and seventeen male flying cadets and 314 ground personnels were tested. The stimulus mode of emergency stop after 90(o)/s constant speed rotation was adopted in the dark environment. The electronystagmography (ENG) of research objects was recorded. The relevant data were analyzed statistically. The blood of the two groups were collected before and after the stimulation. The radioimmunoassays were used to determine the ACTH levels of plasma. The effect of rotation stimulation on ACTH levels of plasma was observed. Results As compared with those of ground personnel, the maximum slow-phase speed (SPEV) of vertical nystagmus on flying cadets significantly decreased (P <0.05),attenuation time constant of SPEV significantly increased in flying cadets (P < 0.05).ACTH levels of plasma in flying cadets were higher than those of the ground personnel before and after the stimulation, especially the ACTH levels of plasma after rotation stimulation were obvious. Conclusions Flying cadets breed vestibular habituation after a long flight training, the basis ACTH levels of plasma in the body increased.
