摘 要:This paper reviews important second language research on recasts in response to a recent debate between Goo and Mackey (2013) and Lyster and Ranta (2013) in the journal Studies in Second Language Acquisition. It begins by clarifying the definition of recasts and then examines several controversial issues featuring prominently in the debate, including the theoretical underpinnings of existing research on recasts, mixed findings about their effectiveness in language acquisition, and methodological concerns in effectiveness research. The primary aim of this paper is to demarcate common ground and disagreement that are emerging in this debate and, based on a synthesis and critique of previous empirical studies, to identify directions for future research. It also explores pedagogical implications of recasts research for English-as-a-foreign-language contexts.本文结合Goo和Mackey(2013)以及Lyster和Ranta(2013)最近就二语重铸研究而展开的针锋相对的争论,综述了二语重铸研究的重要文献。本文首先澄清重铸的定义,然后着重探讨这场争论涉及到的几个议题,包括现有重铸研究的理论基础、不同重铸有效性研究得出的矛盾结果,以及有效性研究中的研究方法问题。本文的主要目的在于从这场争论中发现共识、辨明分歧,并在对现有实证性研究进行综合分析和评价的基础上,指出未来重铸研究的方向。本文还探讨了重铸研究对于英语作为外语教学的启示。
