摘　　要：该文将广州市沿江西路49号南方大厦(原城外大新公司)建筑置于世界百货类建筑发展史、国内百货类建筑发展史、广州市百货类建筑发展史等宏大的发展背景下,从近代华侨资本开创中国百货业、近代中国百货类建筑在国内的流传、与西方百货类建筑原型的异同等三个方面以特征描述和对比分析的方式总结其建筑价值。说明这栋建筑是广州近代商贸类建筑中百货类建筑的杰出代表,它在世界商贸建筑史、中国商贸建筑史和广州商贸建筑史上都占有重要地位。对其价值的探讨可为广州传统商贸类建筑的保护和更新起抛砖引玉之作用。The Guangzhou South Building, which was rebuilt in 1954 in accordance with the design of 1918＇s The Da Sun Co. Ltd.. Now we analyze and describe it under the grand architectural background of the development history： world class department store building, domestic architecture department store category and Guangzhou architectural department store category. We summarize the building as modern architecture in Guangzhou Trading class outstanding representative of the class department store building, which led the world architectural history, architectural history of Chinese trade and commerce building occupies an important position in the history of Guangzhou. The value of its importance for the protection of traditional business class and updates Guangzhou acts to initiate the building.
