Objective:To investigate the physical and mental health of the military personnel stationed at high altitude, and provide guidance for their health care.Methods:104male soliders stationed at different altitudes were selected and their physical adaptation and mental health were investigated. The SCL-90 questionnaire was used in the mental health investigation. Results:The common diseases at high altitude included dry lips, vision loss, dry skin, asthma, nose bleeding and bloating/constipation.The incidence for high altitude pulmonary edema and cerebral edema was 3.1% and 0 respectively. The incidence of chronic mountain sickness including the high altitude polycythemia and high altitude heart disease was increased with the increase of stationing time. The mean scores for the mental health including somatization, anxiety and terror listed in SCL-90 were higher than those of the domestic norms of youth group and military group, but no significant difference were observed. Conclusion:The dry climate and ultraviolet radiation at high altitude severely affects the health of military officers and soldiers. The interventions such as UV protection, water quality control and health examination should be performed actively.
