摘  要:THE MIXED BLESSING OF ROS: DON'T YOU KNOW THAT I'M TOXIC?Due to plants' aerobic metabolism, reactive oxygen species (ROS) continuously accrue in different tissues and organs as a by-product of many metabolic reactions. Despite their toxic activity, plants also rely on ROS as a major form of second messenger to integrate, induce, and/or propagate biotic and abiotic signals and signaling cascades. Being small, short-lived, and rapidly diffusible makes ROS ideal messenger molecules for local biochemi- cal reactions.
