Abstract:Objective To explore the influence of free failing of whole blood at high altitudes on the quality of whole bloods with different preservation time. Methods Eighteen bags of whole blood were separated into three groups and were stored for one day, seven days and fourteen days at 4℃. After preservation, a free fall experiment was conducted on all bags. The presence of hemolysis was observed with naked eyes in samples before and after the experiment. The following pa- rameters, FHb, electrolyte ( K + , Na + ) , pH and ATP concentration of the whole blood, were compared before and after the experiment. Results Hemolysis of erythrocytes never occurred before and 'after the free fall experiment. No significant sta- tistical differences (P 〉 0. 05 ) were found when contrasting the level of FHb, electrolyte ( K + , Na+ ), pH and ATP concen- tration of the samples storing for one day and seven days. Before and after the free fall experiment, the level of FHb(rag/L) and K + concentration(mmol/L) of the samples storing for 14 days ,were 97.4 ± 6.2 vs 105.3 ±6.8 ( P 〈 0.05 ) , and 11.28± 1.15 vs 12.65 ± 1.2(P 〈0. 05), respectively. Conclusion Free falling simulation had no significant effect on the whole blood quality in the short term.
