Objective To understand the epidemiological characters of patients injured by animals in Xieheng (north) District, and to provide scientific evidenee for rabies control. Methods Data of 28 165 patients who visited rabies clinics and received vaccinations during 2010 -2013 were selected and analyzed by descriptive epidemiological methods. Results Patients injured by animals were reduced by years during the study period. Most cases appeared between May and August and the peak incidence occurred in June. The sex ratio of male to female was 0.81:1. Most patients were 20 -29 years old young people and workers. The main injured parts of the body were hand (59.87%) , followed by leg (24. 43% ). 77.66% of the patients received treatment within 24 hours. Among Ill-level exposure patients, only 32.28% were immunized with rabies immunoglobulin. Dogs (75.54%) and eats ( 18.94% ) were the main attacking animals. More than two thirds of domestic animals were unvaccinated within a year. Conclusion Residents in Xicheng (north) District had the knowledge and the selfprotection awareness of rabies. However, the management of animals and education of rabies prevention still need to be improved.
