In order to make better use of quicklime during sintering granulation, it's worthwhile to have further re- searches on optimizing granulation water of sintering mix based on the water absorbing characteristics of quick- lime. The influence of three different granulation water addition ways were investigated, which were constant wa- ter addition, water addition based on hydration of quicklime and water addition based on water absorbing charac- teristics of quicklime. The results show that water consumptions of quicklime during granulation include chemical water consumed in hydration into Ca(OH)2 and physical water absorbed by quicklime after hydration. Both of them have effect on content and distribution of water in sintering mix. In the case of water addition based on the hydration of quicklime, the physical water absorbed by quicklime after hydration has a negative effect on granula- tion for the competition of water and finally caused water shortage in iron ore, though moisture in sintering mix can be ensured. When the water addition is accordance with water absorbing characteristics of quicklime, the prop- er granulation water is obtained so that moisture in iron ore can be ensured, the granulation of sintering mix is im- proved a lot as a result.
