Dissolved and particulate organic carbon (DOC and POC), as well as chemical oxygen demand (COD) were investigated on the Estuary of the Shuangtaizi River in May and August, 2011. Results showed that DOC, POC and COD ranged at 4.04-5.06, 2.93-10. 85 and 5.65-14. 07 mg/L, with the averages at 4.60, 7.01 and 9.04 mg/L in 2.42-67.62 mg/L, with the averages at 26.75, May, while those at 10.87-46.04, 0. 88-17.27 and 4.16 and 17.85 mg/L in August, correspondingly. DOC, POC and COD gradually reduced from fresh water to sea water. The input of organic carbon and dilution of the seawater were the primary reasons to control the distribution of organic carbon in the Estuary of the Shuangtaizi River, followed by the biological production in situ and patterns of suspended particles. However, the complexity of the estuary processes led to clear special and temporal variations on DOC, POC and COD. A non-significant linear relationship was presented between TOC and COD in the studying area, as well as a different relationship between May and August.
