US's Adjustments to Taiwan Strait Patrol Policy and the Thawing of Sino-US Relations

摘　　要：1969年,美国因国防预算削减,决定撤出在台海执行固定巡逻任务的两艘驱逐舰,但此举被正试图改善对华关系的美国政府赋予了特殊的政治意义,这一行动被作为向中国展示其善意的重要举措之一。同时,此举给台湾当局造成极大疑虑,并不断向美国进行抗议和交涉。然而,美国政府并未改变决定。这一举措促进了中美关系的解冻,同时也加深了台湾当局对美国政府的疑虑和不信任。Due to defense budget cuts in 1969 US decided to withdraw two destroyers implementing fixed patrols in the Taiwan Strait,but which had been given special political significance by US government who was trying to improve the relations with China,this action was regarded as one of important measures of US's goodwill to China.At the same time the move caused great concerns to the Taiwan authorities and they continued to protest and negotiate with US.However US government did not change the decision.This measure promoted the thawing of Sino-US relations and at the same time deepened the Taiwan authorities' suspicion and mistrust to US government.
