On Translation Integration of Historical Biography:A Case of Tai Xi Xin Shi Lan Yao

摘　　要：《泰西新史揽要》以经世致用的中国史学会通"冷静无私"的西史、以强调"知人得时"的历史叙事会通客观叙事、以中国史传的文笔会通西史写实的史笔。该译作在以中史会通西史的同时,挖掘出了丰富的本土资源,彰显了传统史传"义、事、文"在史传翻译中的诗学价值;但泥于传统史传的褒贬手法、人物和叙事原型,在以西史改进中史方面明显不足。In Tai Xi Xin Shi Lan Yao, the practicality - oriented Chinese historiography was employed to integrate with the neutral and unbiased western historieal science, Chinese historical narration with the fo- cus on “character” and “time” was integrated with the objective western narration, and the literary depiction in Chinese historical biography was integrated with the fact - restoring historical biography of the west. While Chinese and western historical biographies were integrated in this translation, abundant traditional re- sources in Chinese historical biography were unveiled, adding to the poetic significance of “orientation, nar- ration and literariness” in the translation of historical biography. But this translation complied too closely with the traditional criteria of telling good from evil in historical biography and relied too heavily on tradi- tional models of character portrayal and event knitting to bring about innovations in Chinese historiography.
