Objectives To study the effect of Six minutes walking test on the prognosis of aged patients with hypertension. Methods 200 aged patients with hypertension were randomly divided into Six minutes test group ( 100 cases) and control group ( 100 cases). The patients in Six minutes walking test group received Six minutes walking and conventional drug treatment for 4 months, and those in control group received routine drug treatment only. To understand the differences of arterial stiffness between two groups before and after the experiment, and to follow up the incidence of cardiovascular events ( stroke, death). Results There was no difference between the two groups in general conditions, After 1 year follow up, the rate of cardiovascular events in Six mi- nutes walking test group were significantly lower than those of control group( P 〈 0. 05 ). The level of arterial stiffness of patients in Six minutes walking test group was improved. Conclusions Six minutes test could improve significantly the prognosis of aged pa- tients with hypertension.
