To avoid the cracking in the connecting parts of superstructure caused by foundation differential settlement between the new and old bridges in highway bridge widening project, aposttensioned prestressed concrete slab bridge and a T beam bridge in the bridge widening project that are involved in a highway renovation and widening program were taken as the study background. The influence of foundation differential settlement between new and old bridges on the load bearing behavior of the post-tensioned slab bridge and T beam bridge was analyzed, and strength checking was done for the connecting parts of the structure.Foundation settlement monitoring of 13 months was conducted for the bridge that adopts the foundation strengthening technique(post grouting at the pile base),aiming to verify the effect of the control technique. The results indicate that when the foundation differential settlement between the new and old bridges is 5mm,the load bearing behavior of the superstructures meets the requirements and the strength of the connecting parts also meets the requirements. The foundation strengthening technique is proved to be effective in reducing the foundation differential settlement between the new and old bridges.
