摘　　要：本文使用文本细读的方法,结合詹姆逊、拉康的有关后现代社会的理论探讨罗斯的《人性污点》这部小说的深层意义,认为它反映了后现代社会颠覆与消解之下人们的互相质疑和自我质疑,拷问了美国当代社会荒谬与反讽的历史状况。如果说它是一部"恶作剧",也应该是一部"提出一个问题"的"恶作剧"。Taking a close-reading approach to pursue the underlying significance of The Human Stain by Roth from the perspeetives of Jameson＇s and Laean＇ s post-modernistic doctrines, this paper argues that the story poses a thought-provoking question to the ironic and ridiculous contemporary American society, by means of describing the mutual-distrust and self-distrust in the context of post-modernistic undermining and deeonstruction. This paper concludes that the story ought to be a questioning ＂mischief＂ if it is indeed one.
