Objective To assess the heart rate recovery (HRR) of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients after exercises testing and investigate its relationship with mobility. Methods A total of 27 patients who produced negative results after symptom -limited cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) (the treated group) and 27 healthy subjects (the control group) were enrolled in to the current study. Then the heart rate recovery time (HRRT) and mobility index were measured after testing. Results The treated patients had obviously shorter HRRT than the control (P 〈 0.01 ), decreased peak heart rates, Peak VO2/kg, Peak METs and heart rate restorations (HRRes) , but higher resting heart rates, compared with the control (P 〈 0. 05). All participants presented the values of 1 - minute heart rate recovery ( HRR1 ) alter exercises which was positively correlated with Peak VO2/kg ( r = 0. 40, P 〈 0.01 ), Peak METs ( r = 0. 35, P 〈 0.01 ) and HRRes ( r = 0. 55, P 〈 0.01 ). Conclusion T2DM patients show slower heart rate recovery and reduced mobility, and a positive correlation exists between them.
