摘　　要：苏格兰小说的发展历经沉寂与崛起。本文从苏格兰小说本身发展的历程考察它的起步,探寻其创作的历史情怀与源头;结合苏格兰民族复杂的历史文化背景,尤其是纠结其中的语言问题,解析它对民族性的超越;从读者接受的角度,讨论苏格兰小说家身份的多样性,探讨它的跨文化特征。由此指出,苏格兰小说创作在历史与现实的拉锯中,复杂的历史情怀、创作语言的杂糅、作家身份的多重性等因素的融入,成为它自身发展并走向世界的原因。This thesis, beginning with a historical review, probes into the historical circumstances surrounding the inception of Scottish novel writing. It then involves the language issue which is entwined with its historical complexities to analyze how Scottish fiction transcends its nationalism. In addition, the discussion of multiple identities of Scottish novelists is inevitable, for it helps to illustrate the cross-cultural feature of Scottish literature. It holds that the innate development and the consequent global recognition of Scottish novels have derived momentum from paradoxical factors such as the concern of the national history, the linguistic heterogeneousness and the diversity of writers＇ identity.
