OBJECTIVE To explore effect of the preoperative visit and intraoperative incision protection in preven- ting incision infections in surgical patients. METHODS Totally 500 cases were selected from Oct. 2014 to Sep. 2015 in general surgery department and surgical ontology department and they were divided into high-quality care group with 250 cases and conventional control group with 250 cases in accordance with random number table. The high-quality care group was treated with preoperative visit and intraoperative incision protection and the conven- tional control group adopted conventional interventions. The infection condition, interventions and the operation skills and other factors by medical staffs were compared in the two groups to investigate the effect of preoperative visit and intraoperative incision protection in preventing incision infections in surgical patients. RESULTS The qual- ified rate of the health care workers" mastering the infection prevention-related knowledge was 74.0% in the con- trol group, significantly lower than 98. 0% of the high-quality care group the positive rate of the health care workers" mastering the intraoperative operations was 70. 8% in the control group, significantly lower than 92.8% of the high-quality care group, and the difference was statistically significant (P〈0.01). The ineidence of incision infections of the high-quality care group was 8.4%, significantly lower than 27.6% of the control group (P〈 0.05), and there was statistically significant difference in the incidence of incision infections between the two groups (P〈0.01). CONCLUSION Preoperative visit and intraoperative incision protection helps to reduce the pa- tient's postoperative wound infections.
