摘　　要：在西方身体问题一直是一个旷日持久的主题,因为身体作为生命的本体,从来就不是一个单纯的生理现实,往往是权力与意志的象征,是规训与惩罚的受体。因此,对身体的态度是反映一个社会、一种文化的重要标志。19世纪美国作家霍桑的文学作品通过对于人性的讨论,展现出对于身体不同态度的批判,试图建构起坚强、仁爱、自由、平等的身体观。Physical problems in the West has been a permanent subject all the time, because the body as the body of life, has never been a purely physical reality, but often is the symbol of power and will, the acceptor of disciple and punishment. So the atti- tude towards the body is a symbol to reflect a society and the culture. Nineteenth-century American writer Nathaniel Hawthorne, in his literary works, had deep discussion about human nature, criticized different body concepts and tried to construct a new body con- cept of tenacity, love, freedom and equality.
