摘  要:Fractionation of the two stable isotopes of Li,the lightest metal in the cosmos,is very large in the earth system.Consequently,sedimentary systems and the hydrosphere have developed a variable and distinctive isotopic signature compared with the mantle,which appears veryFractionation of the two stable isotopes of Li, the lightest meta! in the cosmos, is very large in the earth system. Consequently, sedimentary systems and the hydrosphere have developed a variable and distinctive isotopic signature compared with the mantle, which appears very consistent in terms of Li isotopes. In short, most low-temperature- altered materials take on an isotopically heavy character relative to the mantle; for example, seawater is currently ca. 2.6 % enriched in 67Li compared with normal mantle rocks and mid-ocean ridge basalts.
