A Tug-of-war between Art and Commerce in Chinese Movie Industry

摘  要:Movie industrv's commercial nature does not conflict with its artistic nature, to quote a Chinese verse: "Bean stems and beans used to share one root, but why the stems are used as the fuel to boil the beans?" Artistic movies without commercial support cannot survive; neither do commercial and entertainment movies without art content. In essence, the artistic and commercial natures of a movie are an integral whole. The commercial and technological purpose of a movie must be achieved through art. Otherwise, a movie will not he a success neither in commercial sense or artistic sense.
