Objective To understand the affecting factors of the serum measles antibody levels of the parturient women and their newborn infants, and provide basis for scientific prevention measure of measles and decrease the incidence rate of infants. Methods Serum samples of the 100 parturient women and their newborn infants were collected to test measles IgG antibody levels by measles enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Questionnaires were conducted in the parturient women. Results Positive rate of measles antibody in the newborn infants was 96.00% with a protective rate of 54.00% and GMC of 1 162.16 mIU/ml. There were no statistical differences in serum measles IgG antibody levels of infant of different gender, weight and parity (P〉0.05). An obvious higher serum measles antibody IgG levels and GMC of the infants whose mothers were previously infected with measles (x^2=6.2580, P〈0.05) than those whose mothers were immunized with measles vaccine and mothers were never infected or vaccinated (P〈0.05). Conclusion This result suggested a booster measles vaccination of women at reproductive age may increase the serum measles antibody levels of infants and reduce the incidence of measles infection.
