Foot binding is a unique tradition in China, which continued for thousands of years. It showed a distinctive aesthetic orientation and had been given a profound moral significance.Connected with marriage and ethics, foot binding became an unbreakable customs.Similar to other rural areas of the country, during the period of the Republic of China, villages in Zibo area still retained a strong custom for foot binding.Actually,it had a certain influence between foot binding and marriage. However, due to the traditional marriage and family system, tiny feet could not fully ensure women's marital happiness.Nevertheless, war turmoil and the Marriage Law enacted by the PRC government both provided a historical opportunity for women with bound feet to get rid of their unhappy marriage.
