摘　　要：《皇帝的孩子》揭示了9·11事件前后美国纽约知识分子对左翼文化传统的批判与继承。纽约一批而立之年的青年知识分子,针对媒体"皇帝"默里及其代表的左翼文化霸权发动了一场虚幻的革命。卢多维克以革命作为个人攫取文化地位、建立新霸权的手段;布狄则在揭露皇帝的虚伪和丑陋之后,开始寻找新的信仰和生命的意义。新老两代知识分子的对峙和交锋反映出当代语境下知识分子在继承左翼文化遗产、实现文化突围时所面临的困境。青年知识分子以个人生活方式的改革来实现政治性的干预和表达,这是对左翼思想的反叛性继承,是指向自身的文化反思。The Emperor＇s Children depicts an illusory revolution initiated by a group of younger intellectu- als in New York whose purpose is to decrown the media King Murray, the spokesman of the relics of new left ideology. The outbreak of 9/11 Attacks makes all their efforts futile. Some of them give up the revolution, and others just carry out the revolution by turning to Emersonian independent scholars and pursuing individualism. The confrontation between the two generations of New York intellectuals just reveals the dilemma of the young radical intellectuals. It is hard to inherit the traditions of the new left ideology but it is even harder to eradicate it. The examination and criticism the young intellectuals made against their forefathers, function also as dis- torted inheritance of this radical ideology and a self - reflection to get transcended.
