摘 要:互联网中可用IPv4地址即将耗尽,因此全网过渡到IPv6已越加紧迫.为实现这两个互不兼容协议的通信,需使用IPv4/IPv6翻译机制.然而,人们对IPv4/IPv6翻译器的性能仍知之甚少,这将影响该机制在全网的部署.为了填补这一空缺,我们对典型的IPv4/IPv6翻译机制(IVI)进行测量;由于其已部署于100多所大学,因此测量结果将具有一定的参考价值.我们评估了网络层有效性,应用层可用性,以及端到端性能影响.结果显示,IVI在大多数情况下表现很好,但也存在一些可改进之处,包括:无法翻译某些类型的数据包,对端到端性能有一定的影响,不支持某些网络应用等.With the depletion of IPv4 addresses, the transition to IPv6 is becoming increasingly urgent. In this process, IPv4/IPv6 translation is used for intercommunication between the two protocols. However, the performance of the translation remains largely unknown. To reveal this, we conducted multidimensional measurements on IVI, a typical IPv4/IPv6translation mechanism deployed in more than 100 universities and organizations. We believe the measurement result is representative and meaningful because of such large deployment. We evaluated its network layer validity, application layer capability and end-to-end performance, including 3 dimensions of a translation device. The measurement results show that IVI performed quite well in the majority of testing cases, however, the resuits illustrate some weaknesses:the specific implementation of IVI failed to translate some packets ,it posed an impact on web browsing performance;besides, some popular applications failed to work when connecting the Internet through an IVI device. It is especially noteworthy that while the first and second issues are implementation-specific, the third issue can be generalized to all translation scenarios. According to the analysis, we not only provide principles for the design and implementation of translation mechanisms, but also discuss broader topics such as application upgrading and configuration.
