摘　　要：达特茅斯学院案对于国内教育学术界并不是一个陌生的话题,但从已有的成果来看,国内研究者对该案的理解和认识仍然存在很多偏差,甚至还普遍存在着一些误解。其实,达特茅斯学院案的性质并不是"政治斗争"式的控制权争夺,当时各州政府并无意控制一所高等教育机构,判决也没有直接导致高等教育中政府权力的收缩,认为该案抑制了公立高等教育鼓励私立高等教育的观点也是缺乏根据的。该案是美国高等教育史乃至美国早期史上具有里程碑意义的事件,对它的认识和理解也需要不断发展。Dartmouth Case is not a strange topic for the domestic educational academ- ic circles. But domestic researchem still do not have thorough understanding of the case, and even have some misunderstandings, according to the existing researches. This paper argues that, Dartmouth Case is not a kind of ＂political struggle＂, State government has no intention to control an institution of higher education at that time, and the judgment did not directly lead to the contraction of government power in higher education. The opinion that the case pushed the private higher education forward and restrained the public higher educa- tion is also doubtful. Dartmouth Case was a landmark event in the history of American high- er education as well as the early history of the United States. The understanding of this case also needs to be developed in the constant explanation.
