As the candidate materials of friction pairs in seawater hydraulic piston pump, the tribological character- istics of 30 wt% carbon fiber-reinforced PEEK (PEEK450-FC30) sliding against engineering ceramic SiC under seawater lubrication are investigated on the MCF-IO friction and wear test machine. Effects of pressure, sliding ve- locity on the material the influence law of wear rate and friction coefficient is investigated. It is discovered that, within a certain range of the sliding velocity and contact pressure, wear rate and friction coefficient of the friction pair show very low. Especially, in a wide range of velocity(0. 5 ~ 1.5 m/s) , when the pressure is 1.33 MPa, the wear rate is the lowest. Besides, the worn surfaces are analyzed by scanning electron microscope to elucidate the mechanism of friction and wear. It is considered that in this research, no noticeable wear of SiC can be found while the wear of PEEK450-FC30 arises mainly from material transfer caused by adhesion and mechanical plough. The research results will play a very important role in the material selection of water hydraulic components.
