This paper intends to study the impact of the cupric ions and mercuric ions at different concentration and the high-concentration mixture of copper and mercury on survival, behavior and ponderal growth of tadpoles of Quasipaa spinosa. The results showed that heavy metal ions at different concentration might result in different biological effects on the tadpoles. In 7-day stress treatment and 7-day recovery, out of the 10 treatment groups, only the tadpoles in Cu Hg-1.25(mixture of 1.25 mg/m L cupric ion and 1.25 mg/m L mercuric ion)and Hg-0.25(mercuric ion concentration being 0.25 mg/m L)groups showed high percentage of death. The consecutive observation in the period of stress treatment and recovery indicated that the heavy metal would change the behavior of the tadpoles, such as increased sensitivity to noise, clustering and toxic symptom of the tadpole with small body and weak swimming. On the seventh day of stress treatment and the seventh day of recovery, body weight of the tadpoles in Cu-0.05(cupric ion concentration being 0.05 mg/m L) treatment group was significantly heavier than that of the control group, indicating that addition of necessary trace element of copper may boost development of the tadpole.
