As one of the most important characteristics of postmodernism, fragmentation' s generation is inseparable from the broken postmodern American society. Many great postmodernists are particularly in favor of the art of fragmentation, and they believe in that fragmentation vividly reflects the absurdity, decentralization, disconnection of postmodern American society and implies the living state of isolation and schizophrenia of postmodern people. Jennifer Egan, a famous modern American novelist, also exquisitely employs the art of fragmentation in her novel A Visit from the Goon Squad, the winner of The Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2011. From the aspects of bouncing time-space narration, broken plot structure and discontinuous PowerPoint presentation, this paper analyzes the application of the art of fragmentation in the novel A Visit from the Goon Squad , and reveals the interpersonal emotional gap and blank social tragedy of American contemporary people under the influences of fragmentary society and advanced science and technology
