摘  要:稻米是一种古老谷物,人类很早就开始驯化及栽培这种植物。发展到今天,稻米已经成为人类不可缺少的粮食,世界各地都种稻食米。在哥伦布抵达美洲前,新大陆还没有人工栽培稻。随着移民到来,稻米才逐步传入美洲。北美的欧洲移民虽然不吃米,但将其当作经济作物来发展。中、南美洲也种稻,但发展较晚,且所产稻米供应本地食用。旧大陆稻米传入新大陆不仅是农作物的传播,还是新旧大陆农业文明的交流。Ancient people began to cultivate rice thousands of years ago. Up to the present,rice has become a kind of main cereal indispensable to human beings. Before Columbus arrived the Americas,there was no rice cultivation in the New World. Along with European immigrants and African slaves,rice was brought to the New Continent. Though the Europeans in the North America did not eat rice,they cultivated it as a eccnomic cash crop. On the other hand,immigrants in the South America cultivated and ate rice,but did not have enough rice to sell. In a word,the spread of rice from the Old World to the New World has not only been the exchange of grains,but also the communication of agricultural culture.
