In order to identify their advantages and disadvantages as well as respective features, a comparison was made between AC-AC and AC-DC-AC drive systems. It analyzed the current technology situation of AC-DC-AC high-power medium-voltage converter and the technical difficulties of its application on metallurgical mill. In the end, it presented the current situation and future prospect of AC-DC-AC high-power medium-voltage drive system in the high-end metallurgical mill field.
