The features of burying dead in the cellars or ash pits can be named as 3h li t bariai s? which are usually believed by the researchers as the burials of the people with special identifications and/ or low positions, so they were simply discarded in the abandoned cellars; some researchers also suggested that they were sacrificial victims or the executed prisoners of war. Through the analyses to the typical ash pit burials of the Yangshao Cul^re referring to their locations and distributions in the settlements and their relationships with the other remains, this paper classified these ash pit burials into the special burials, random burials and sacrificial or ceremonial remains, and discussed their forming reasons and the statuses of their occupants.
