从反讽到同情——《悲痛的往事》中的叙述风格与女性形象

摘　　要：《悲痛的往事》被认为是乔伊斯短篇小说集《都柏林人》中最忧郁的、最灰暗的故事。主人公达菲先生看清了自己孤独凄凉的人生境遇,认识到自己是个"被人生的盛宴排斥在外的人"。而对于女性人物辛尼科太太,叙述者几乎从一开始便用自由间接引语的形式将她的话语和思想嵌入到男主人公占主导地位的男性话语之中。本文从认知诗学的角度分析作者如何使用从反讽到同情的叙述风格来塑造不同的人物形象,以及为何选择这种特定的叙述风格,从而揭示出作者如何通过对叙述角度和话语思想表达方式的选择来表现孤独与瘫痪的主题。Among the fifteen tales in James Joyce’s Dubliners,＂A Painful Case＂is regarded as the sullenest and the gloomiest one,in which Mr. Duffy realizes the loneliness and desolation of his life,and thus triggers the epiphany that he is ＂an outcast from life’s feast. ＂As for Mrs. Sinico,the woman image,the narrator almost from the beginning endeavors to embed her discourse and thoughts,in the form of free indirect speech,in the hero’s dominant discourse.From the perspective of cognitive poetics,this paper analyzes the different narrative styles from irony to sympathy in the characterization and the reasons of the author’s choices of point of view and speech and thought presentation,which aims to help express the theme of loneliness and paralysis.
