摘　　要：《伙计》主要写了两类犹太移民在追寻"美国梦"过程中的失败:一类移民在实利主义泛滥的美国坚守犹太民族的道德精神和理想,最终梦想破灭,黯然消逝;另一类犹太移民在追逐"美国梦"的过程中,并没有坚守犹太理想和道德,而是成了实利主义的践行者。但也在物质成功的后陷入精神空虚中,与"美国梦"渐行渐远。这一失败的原因有多方面的因素,但根本原因在于美国社会制度和文化。The Assistant demonstrates two types of failure in their pursuit of American Dream.One group of Jewish immigrants adhered to their morality and ideas,but their dreams fell apart.The other group of Jewish immigrants became materialists by abandoning their morality and ideas.Financially,they were successful but spiritually they were empty.They found themselves farther and farther away from their American Dream.There are many factors causing this failure,but the most important one lies in American social system and culture.
