摘　　要：武汉和西安是我国的两个大型中心城市,通过对区域铁路网、沿线经济社会发展、交通运输需求等分析武汉至西安客运专线的功能定位,并从路网功能、通道能力、沿线经济的带动和旅游资源的开发等方面进一步研究项目建设的必要性。研究结论为:项目建设对于构建西北至华中、华东等地区快速客运通道,完善区域路网结构,实现通道内客货分线运输,提高通道能力和服务质量、加快沿线城镇化进程,促进沿线旅游产业繁荣等具有重要意义。Wuhan and Xi＇an are two major cities in China. This paper analyzes the functionalities of Wuhan to Xi＇an dedicated passenger Railway line in terms of regional railway network, economic and social development along the line and transportation demand. Furthermore, the necessities of the project are studied with respect to the function of the network, the corridor capacity and the economic and tourism resources development. The results show that the construction project plays an important role in the construction of express passenger traffic system from northwest to the central and east part of China to improve the regional network structure, achieve separated passenger and freight transportation, increase the traffic capacity and service quality, speed up the process of urbanization and promote tourist industry along the line.
