The writing of body is something prevalent and unavoidable in the current postmodern site of literature that has gone so far that it' s been elevated to the written level of subject or it has become a focal point in expressing trauma and cul- tural resistance, particularly in the marginal modes of criticism, such as feminist criticism, postcolonial criticism and ethnic minority criticism. On the other hand, it has also developed a consumerist tendency in which body turns into an object of gaze, voyeurism, representation and pleasure, becoming the most glamouring and pleasurable article. This paper intends to explore the writing of body in Huang Chun-ming' s fiction, particularly a number of representative works of his, published in the 1960s and 1970s in an attempt to analyse and sum up various types of body writing in his fiction, namely, body as re- demption, as hegemony and as humour, and, in discussing these types of body, it is intended, too, to make revelations about the society, culture and political references hidden in them.
