摘 要:Drama translation is fundamentally different from the translation of other genres, such as proses, fictions, and poeaT, and in the field of translating dramas, translated texts for the literary system and the texts confined to the theatrical system are two separate kinds of drama translation (Aaltonen, 2000). "And a play conceived of as a literary text will be very different from a play devised by a group of actors, possibly working with a jobbing writer" (Bassnett, 2011: 100). With regard to this, readability and performability can serve as two distinguished features of the two kinds of translation respectively, and performability is undeniably one of the most important issues of the play for stage. This essay will give an objective introduction of the duality of drama, i.e. readability and perfomability. Then, an elaborated discussion of performability will be addressed including what is performability and how to secure performability in the play.
