Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of obesity and the relationship between obesity and metabolic disease indexes in the Jinchang Cohort baseline population. Methods Face to face investigation and physiological and biochemical test were employed in the baseline population of Jinchang Cohort. The relationships between the status of overweight and obesity and blood lipid, blood pressures, and blood glucose were analyzed. Results The prevalence of overweight and obesity was 33.63% and 9.26% respectively, and the standardized rates were 32.10% and 9.41%, respectively. The prevalence of overweight and obesity was significanlyt higher in men (40.17% and 10.71%, tively), P 〈 0.01. Abnormal rates of blood lipid, blood respectively) than women (23.23% and 6.95%, respecpressure, and blood glucose increased with the increase of body mass index (P 〈 0.01). Conclusion The prevalence of overweight in the Jinchang Cohort baseline population have reached higher level with significant gender differences, Obesity is closely related to lipid metabolism. Overweight and obesity have become important health burdens in the cohort.
