Is acupuncture really ineffective for knee joint pain?:discussion based on a research published in JAMA  

针刺真的对膝关节痛无效吗?——从JAMA的一项研究报告谈起(英文)

摘　　要：An article has been published on the Journal of the American Medical Association （JAMA） to demonstrate that acupuncture was ineffective in treatment of knee joint pain in elderly people. The authors analyzed the research report and concluded the conclusions as follows： ①it was indicated according to the data that acupuncture was effective in treatment of chronic knee joint pain at the time of treatment for 12 weeks, but the efficacy fell back after the and of treatment for one year, indicating that acupuncture was not really ineffective; ② false laser treatment was also effective in treatment, which indicated that false laser treatment was not suitable to be taken as negative control; ③the falling back of efficacy after the and of treatment for one year was not ineffectiveness but relapse, indicating that knee joint pain in elderly people was easy to relapse. Therefore, the conclusion in the report that acupuncture was ineffective in treatment of knee joint pain in elderly people was not accurate.美国医学会杂志(简称JAMA)发表文章证明针刺治疗老年人膝关节痛无效。笔者分析该研究报告,得出如下结论:1文中数据显示针刺对慢性膝关节痛在治疗12周时有疗效,而治疗后一年疗效回落,说明针刺治疗并非无效;2该研究设计中假激光治疗也产生了有意义的疗效,说明它不适宜做为阴性对照;3治疗后一年疗效回落,这是该病的复发而不是无效,证明了老年人膝关节痛是容易复发的疾病。所以该文作者据此作出针刺治疗老年人膝关节痛无效的结论并不准确。
